Representatives from Baptist Princeton Medical Center, Birmingham Southern College (BSC), BSC Environmental Center and the City of Birmingham were on hand for the dedication of the Healing Garden on Monday, July 18. The garden, located on the campus of Baptist Princeton Medical Center near the intersection of 10th Street SW and Tuscaloosa Avenues, was designed using a public process and by students at BSC. According to literature available at the event, the garden was designed “… specifically with visual arts exhibits and fragrance and wildflower gardens to serve as a therapeutic tool” for Baptist Princeton staff, residents of nearby Princeton Towers and their families and the surrounding community. The facility can also be used as an outdoor classroom for local high schools and colleges.

The garden is the first facility of its kind in Alabama and features herbs, fruit trees and flowers traditionally grown in the 1940s and 1950s. Its front fence is designed to resemble the famous Gee’s Bend quilt patterns and the center of the garden features a water sculpture.

Please call (205) 226.4934 to reserve the facility as well as to learn more information about this collaborative project.
