Blooms for Beacon
Instilling Pride in Commercial Communities

“What a desolate place would be a world without a flower! It would be a face without a smile, a feast without a welcome.”
            -Clara Lucas Balfour

Like the communities in which they were planted, flowers take time to achieve their maximum potential. Blooms for Beacon is a beautification program that supplies volunteers with seasonal flowers.

Merchants and residents in the Main Street Birmingham target areas hope to instill a sense of pride in the surrounding communities and attract new visitors, shoppers and investors to their commercial areas.

Mary Harris planted flowers outside of her beauty shop, Hair So Unique, during the first spring planting in North Birmingham and Woodlawn. With the success of the program, Avondale merchants have decided to follow suit.

Main Street Birmingham, Inc. worked with the City of Birmingham to have the flowers donated.  MSB plans to bring all nine target districts into the program.
